About Central Suffolk Community Energy

Central Suffolk Community Energy (CSCE) is a Community Interest Company founded in February 2024. All of its directors are unpaid volunteers.

CSCE aims to encourage and support the rural communities of central Suffolk to decarbonise, improve energy resilience and reduce their energy costs, making full use of the financial help available. As a community organisation, CSCE works with community organisations and communities where there is consensus amongst residents or where it can be reached in a way to benefit the community as a whole.

CSCE is part funded by Suffolk’s public sector leaders via Suffolk Climate Change Partnership, with the aim of contributing to Suffolk’s climate emergency plan and its vision of making Suffolk carbon neutral by 2030.

Meet The Directors

Our current team consists of the four initial directors who came together to establish a community energy company to support the 80 rural parishes of the Central Suffolk and North Ipswich parliamentary constituency through the transition away from fossil fuels.

Richard Blackwell

Richard is retired having spent 35 years in senior finance roles, mainly payroll management. Living in Debenham with his wife, Richard is a past chair of the Parish Council, serving as a councillor for 15 years, and is currently exploring green energy opportunities within the community. Richard is very keen on doing something positive about the climate emergency we all face.

By their very nature, community energy companies are community organisations. Becoming a member gives residents a stake in the company, preserves its community credentials and helps it to survive financially.

For a lifetime membership of £12 you can become a member of CSCE. Members receive a vote at the company’s Annual General Meeting on any proposals that the Board puts forward to the membership for approval and will be added our members’ mailing list and will receive updates and information about investment opportunities if and when we launch a community share offer.

All membership fees will be used to part cover administration costs including website hosting, print costs, insurance and professional services charges.
